Our Story

Grenfell, a charming small town in southeastern Saskatchewan, Canada, sits approximately 135 kilometers (84 miles) east of the provincial capital, Regina. Known for its agricultural activities, Grenfell is deeply rooted in the rural community of the region.

Richard and Marcia Dimler, the owners of the Legacy Inn, have a strong family heritage in the Grenfell community that spans back to 1883. Marcia's maternal great grandfather, Warren Hood, was one of the early homesteaders in the area, settling just northwest of Grenfell.

Originally from Prince Edward Island, Warren's family had settled there in 1817 after immigrating from England before eventually making their way to Grenfell. Richard's maternal great grandfather arrived in Grenfell in 1902 from eastern Europe and established his homestead to the east of Grenfell in 1904. Both Richard and Marcia were born in Grenfell's first hospital in 1947. Marcia worked as a registered nurse in the community for many years, while Richard operated Double Bar D Farms from 1968 onwards, with his two sons continuing the farming operation. In their retirement, Richard and Marcia undertook the construction of the Legacy Inn.

Motivated by their deep connection to Grenfell and a desire to give back to their community, Richard and Marcia built the Legacy Inn. Their vision was to create positive employment opportunities locally and foster ongoing business within the community. The inn not only offers a comfortable haven for travelers seeking lodging, but also serves as a beautiful venue for hosting special occasions such as weddings, reunions, anniversaries, picnics, retreats, and business conferences. Richard and Marcia sincerely hope that you, too, will find solace during your stay at the Legacy Inn, in the delightful prairie town of Grenfell. In honor of their heritage and with a hopeful outlook for their family's enduring legacy, they have constructed this establishment.

We're looking forward to your stay with us.
